Hi Paul,

Before doing anything else with the new points, look closely to be sure that the contacts are aligned; ie are parallel. If the contacts just touch on one edge, you won't get good spark. One other tip: after installing new ignition points, I always clean them as they will have some stuff from the factory on them. Turn the engine over until the points close. Tear a little piece off a brown paper bag and dip in rubbing alcohol. Bag paper is strong enough to do this trick. Separate the contacts enough to insert paper and release. Pull the paper out and look at it. See any dark stains? Do this a couple of times and contacts should be clean. It's amazing what a difference this can make.

Hi Paul, Did the engine start ok before you installed the ignition parts? If it did, I would
check the points again and rub some 400 grit emery
cloth thru them and recheck the gap.

If you're getting good fire you may want to place your hand over the Carburetor throat
to see if you have a vacuum while cranking. Checking the compression will show if the rings
and sleeves are getting worn and valves are seating. Hal

You say it turns over fine, I presume it's still six volt. Is it in time? How are your valves set? Have you done a compression test? Do you have a good strong spark? Hope this helps, SAm in NS
