We are working on a Farmall C in FFA and we were wondering if it is a positive or negative ground system.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which terminal of the battery is connected to the frame of tractor? That will tell you what type of ground it is.

It was originally a 6 volt positive ground. Many have been converted in later years to 12 volt negative ground, accomplished by replacing the generator with a 12 volt alternator (with internal regulator), replacing the 6 volt battery with a 12 volt, installing a resistor in front of the coil on the hot wire from the battery, and replacing the 6 volt headlight bulbs with 12 volt bulbs. Oh yeah, and grounding the negative post of the battery to the tractor. Good luck on your project.

'C' was not made until 1948. Should be Positive ground.

If it is the original 6 Volt system, it is positive ground.

If it has been converted to 12-volt it would be negative ground.
