I bought a 460 with a rebuilt injector pump. Any idea why it would be spitting diesel out the exhaust? Thanks, Ricky.

Ricky,I echo the rest on this post. The problem is putt, putt, putting around. At about half throttel or less, get a chiesl or big disk or plow sink it to the hilt had make the ol girl think that you are trying to pull her guts out.Thgat will stop it or slow it down to a minimual amount.
My ol 966 will start slobbering if I idle her around doing light work. After about an hour of hard pulling mine will stop that slobbering for a while.
While doing light puttering around worm keep the idleing to a minimun. Shut the tractor down if you are going to be at one spot for awhile.
Later,
John A.

Ricky,

Perfectly normal operation.

Diesels were designed to work. They will all do what you describe if you just use 'em to "putz around with".

Wrap 'er up and make 'er pull, that slobbern' out the exhaust will stop.

First time I ever saw this was on a brand spankin' new 400 with less that 50 hours on it. Scared us to death....thought we had ruined it or some such thing. :>)

It could be an injector pump timing issue. I overhauled my 560 and had the pump and injectors gone through. I started her up and it ran fine, but blew slobber out the exhaust. I’d double check the timing to make sure it is correct.

The other reason is if the engine has a fouled or bad injector and you simply are not getting the engine up to operating temperature. This could be due to no/bad thermostat, not working the engine hard enough or are just idling it around too much.

My 1030 Cases both slobber a bit when it"s cold. And until they really warm up, they slobber diesel. When it warm or hot outside, they run normal even from startup.

How in heck do you know it's "slobbering diesel?" Been around diesel tractors nearly all my life, and never once have I stuck my face/hand/anything over the exhaust pipe to see what's coming out. Seemed like a pretty stupid thing to do.
