I have recently acquired a manifold with the part number 8035DD, casting code 5-24-Z. Can anyone tell me if this manifold would have better air flow than the original on my 1940 M? Is there any differance?

Rusty,

You probably already know this but the M and Super M engines are not the same size.

I am not an expert, but I would guess that if it fits, and the SMTA has larger exhaust ports in the head, compared to the M (I don't know that), that for all practical purposes, it won't be any better. If the ports are the same size, then the "new improved" one should flow better, but I wouldn't bet on it, unless you have a distillate manifold, then I'm still not sure, so why did I answer??

CNKS, thank you for adding to the confusion, LOL, seriously, my M does have the high compression gas head, and the manifold in question does have a different appearance to it, but so far I have not measured the I.D. of the ports, and even if I did, I still don't know the I.D. of the ports on the head. I suppose I should ask the question on the pulling board, but it's more fun here.

ChadS will probably answer when he gets on -- I should keep quiet.

That is the "new and improved" design that they started putting on the Super M. Going buy the casting date that one went on a Super MTA in 54.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion, it is for a super MTA. I guess I haven't looked at a lot of manifolds but this is the first one I've seen that has a casting code on it.
