My parts manual says the cut out was used from from ser# 501 to 47125 and the regulator from then on up.

The Super A changed during 1950 (serial 286221). The C probably changed at or near the same time. The information is in the Parts Catalog. If I had the Catalog, I'd look it up for you. Since you are working on the tractor, you should have your own copy anyway. Get a good reprint from Binder Books.

I don't know the break point on the change to the regulator. However, if your C has a 3 position switch (Off, dim, bright) then it had a regulator. If it has a 4 position switch (low, high, dim, bright) then it had a cut out relay. No matter though, if you are replacing, best to go with a regulator which is much better to control the charge rate. You don't need to change the switch to make the change to the regulator.

My 48 C has a cut out and I think it has a four position light switch. Low charge, high charge, dim lights, and bright lights.Iam still sort of a beginner but my manual says that when the switch is in the dim, bright, or high charge the generator is being allowed maximum output. TOMD
