i have 1976 1466 black stripe that blows oil out of the breather. the timing is correct and that "brillo pad" lookin thing replaced in breather. its not alot but still more than i like see.

If you reused the pistons, or the sleeves, or installed the rings incorrectly, you may have had the ring gaps "line up" on you on a particular cylinder allowing a clear pathway for blow-by.

Sounds like you may have a broken piston ring and compression is blowing into the crankcase. You may want to check the compression. Hal

some of the ih engines have alot of blow by ,the 400 series seems to be the worst ,my 5088 has alot of blow by ,it has 4200 origional hrs .i would not worry about it.

the 50 series had completelt different rings in them from the rest of the 400 series,they were called a free breathing ring they are thinner than the 66/86 series rings.
the 400 series do all have blowby but oil should not be dripping out.
it is possible that they converted it to the new style rings when it had its OH,and then it would be the same as a 5088.

Redman is correct and if it has the high serial number rings it should have the breather in the valve cover not the side of the block.
