Just bought a 42 mod. A/faa, ser#93007/1540. All components look original. If so is it 6 or 12 volts, pos. or. neg. ground? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

42 A should be 6V positive ground. The Neg battery wire should be run to the starter. You should have a generator with cut out relay mounted on top of it. Light switch should be mounted on steering post and should controll High/Low charge and Bright/Dim lights. That is the decal marking on the switch box. Let us know. Dave.

First thing I would do is check to see whitch post wire goes to chassis ground. Then throw a meter across the posts to read the voltage.

Yours originally was 6 volt positive ground but could have been changed.

The regulaters are ussually marked on the bottom as to voltage/ polarity, IF you can read it, and IF it is indeed the right one for the system on your tractor. A LOT of changes and mistakes can be made in 40+ years!!
