Thinking about painting the M. Does anyone out there have experience with a HVLP Paint Spray System from TP Industries? Saw the ad in Hemmings. Would appreciate some input.

I have a small compressor and could buy a spray gun for around $100.00. The HVLP sysem is around $600.00.

I have the HVLP system from TP. I have had it for a couple of years. I used it to paint a CJ2A Jeep just this afternoon. I bought it in addition to my regular automotive compressor and gun because of the significant savings in paint and reduction of overspray. It does take some practice as the pattern is smaller and is adjusted differently than the Binks gun I have had for years. I found that the finish quality is excellent when spraying Tractor Supply tractor paints with hardener over DP40 epoxy sealer. I have had less success using it with automotive base coat clear coat systems. Decent finish but more orange peel.

Hi Charles, I purchased my HVLP spray gun from Northern Tool and Equipment in MN. They have 3-piece spray gun kit for $119.00. The item number is 156414-1502. The catalog is the Fall and Winter. Their toll free number is 1-800-533-5545.
They will send you a free catlog if you call them.

You can get free literature on their spray guns from 1-800-537-5455. You will need a large compressor because these guns require a lot of air. You don't get the overspray
from this gun as you do with the conventional gun.

If you're using any paint with hardeners use need use adequate protection so you don't inhale any paint while spraying. That doesn't mean to just wrap a rag across your face.
Men have suffered serious medical problems from using some of these paints. Dupont's Imron was one of the first to cause problems.

I use my old Develbiss gun for spraying primer. Good Luck, H

HVLP units are great. Don't have experience with the specific vendor.

If you are painting in a garage, you will have a lot less red all over everything, including your nostrils. You still need an organic vapor respirator unless you are using water based paint. Buy a 3-M 6000, they fit good. You may have to go to an industrial safety store to get one but they are head and shoulders above what you usually find.

el toro is right they use lots of air, also doesn't give the good wide pattern either so it takes more passes.also if you want good results get a good water separator,
