having trouble making the right amount of electricity on an H and on an A 6 volt.
I dont think I understand the function of the field wire when using a 3rd brush gen.
Have wired f to f and a to gen but still dont get the output I expect. what to do?

Follow JIM BECKERS instructions and it will work as we assume you have polarized it and have good grounds on all componets.

I guess that depends on what you expect. If it has a cut-out rather than a voltage regulator, I would expect about 1 to 2 amps wired that way. If you run a wire directly from the generator F to ground you should get about 10 or 11 amps. Wiring the generator F to a properly functioning and grounded 4 position light switch will allow you to select between those two charging rates.
