Put an exhaust manifold on my H last night in the chilly barn....and rebuilt my seat too (new pivot pin, shock, bushings, spring). Had a good ol time me an my dad. The manifold came out just great...that ol girl purrs like a new one now (old manifold had a 3" hole near the back cylinder and she really barked).

Couple of questions now...have all the seat parts put back together but now my seat has a starboard list to it. Just slightly. The original mounts and beam and so on are nice and straight....but by gum she tilts to the right a tiny bit. The bottom of the spring is the culprit...is there a bushing missing or some other way to even it out?

Growing up in the 40"s and 50"s we had a 6ft. David Bradley tandom disc harrow and a 8 ft Ihc field culitavor. So we would tie the trip ropes on the seat spring, once in a while the hitch pin would jump out or break that would let you down in a hurry.

Hi Brian,

Glad to hear things worked out ok with the manifold. Sometimes they don't go so well!!

If you have the seat with the really big spring...Just grab a hold of it and give a quarter turn. Might have to do that more than once to find the "sweet" spot that will make her sit up straight and not list.

Hey Chas,

Yeah I was worried that I would run into problems too. But went good. Bought a really nice used manifold from SteelWheelRanch for $50. What a deal! It looks almost new, and is very solid. Appears is an IH manifold. So I was real happy with that.

I'll try the twist method this afternoon.

Thanks

Brian, you may want to double check your work, if you installed a new pivot pin, as well as new rubber bushings, that seat should be sitting nice and square. I don't think there is any way the spring could throw it off.
