I am totally removing the behlen power steering unit from my farmall 450 and have replaced it with chevrolet power steering. My question is can I just remove and cap the lines from my hydra touch system or will I need to connect them togethor to complete a circuit so it doesn't build up pressure. Thanks for any help you can give me.

All you have to do is hook the pressure line up to the return line. If yo don't you will make the hydraulic system go into hi-pressure mode.

Question? What are you going to use to turn the steering shaft if you take out the Behlen unit?

I mounted the Chevy power steering box directly to the steering gear in front of the radiator and mounted the chevy belt driven pump to make sure the system would work smoothly independent of the tractor hydraulics. I downsized the pump pulley to make up for slower rpm and made the shaft from the steering wheel longer to mount it directly to the new steering box. I don't really like how high I had to put it but it will work well and is actually a simple installation. Originally I wanted to mount the steering box low on the frame and connect directly into the tie rods but that was to hard to do because of the pivot point for the whole front axle and I didn't have a good way to get the steering shaft down to it. My power steering has never worked well anyway and I'm getting tired of battling it. I move round bales with my loader and that is especially hard with the extra weight. I would be glad to post some pictures if I can figure out how to do it. Thanks for the help.

HARLEN, I CAN NOT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION DIRECTLY BUT I OWN A 400, ON WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL FACTORY POWER STEERING. I HAVE THE STANDARD VALVE BODY YOU MAY NEED FOR ELIMINATING THE POWER STEERING. PERHAPS WE COULD WORK OUT A TRADE.

If you could post some pictures, I would really like to see pictures of that setup.

Harlon you will need to do something because that power steering was run off flow divider and if you plug it off it will high pressure.
