W6-Super W6

Can someone tell me the differences between a W6 and a Super W6? What were their main uses back in the day? I have the opportunity to buy one that was running recently for the price of scrap metal, roughly $150-$200. I was told that the reason it was parked was that one of the tie rod ends went out. Is this a big deal to fix/find parts for? Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

They have disc brakes, like a super M, and a bit more pony's. We have a 53 W-6, not a super 6 just a 6, it is one of the last ones built before the supers.

Do either of these model's come standard with hydraulics, or were hydraulics an option from the factory. I ask this because I have seen some with remote hydraulics, and some without. Thank you.

You answered your own question,"I have seen some with remote hydraulics, and some without."

I don't know if belly pump hydraulics were available on the W series, but the Super W6 could have the live hydraulic pump driven off the distributor gear, just like the Super M.

W stands for Wheatland, or Western, depending on who you talk to. I think Wheatland is the official designation from IH. These tractors were designed to pull plows and tillage equipment out in the big grain fields in the midwest.

Although most now refer the W series as Wheatland or Western, or standard type, the official IHC description at the time was "Wheel" tractor for the W series tractors.

just standard tread versions of the M and Super M. Some parts will be harder to find.
