My 986 will be pulling the plow and it will sometimes jump out of gear, The same thing can happen when i stop it to open a gate or check something out, it can start walking on me. Any questions and or comments?

Also where do you get your parts for the International at. I live close to corpus christi texas and I have a cat, case, and john deere dealerships nearby.??

It soulds to me the bearing on the front of the pinion shaft went out or the nut backed off causing the bearing to go out this would cause it to jump out of gear and would also cause the creeping you are talking about. I would pull the range cover and take a look.

Is it the range (H-L-R) or the speed (1-2-3-4) just jumps out of gear?

It is normally in 1 st or second gear. Low range. One of my friends said that the tranmission sleeves or bushings can get worn out on the shifter levers and he said it could be that. I am new to this and trying to see what others may have had problems with. I have not been able to go to a local tractor supply shop yet to look at the parts manuals to see the breakdown of assemblies.

I had a 1086 with a problem like that. I had to replace the shaft that goes through the housing on top of the speed trany that the forks ride on. with that i had to also get a machine shop make a bushing for the housing cause it was sloppy. All of this actually made it worse cause when i had the plate off the trany i seen that 1'st and 2'nd gear were looken pretty bad. In the end i had to do a trany job to the tractor and that fixed my problem. expensive but it fixed my problem.
