I have a model m, has a remote hydralic tank. I use a loader and three point hitch. I have heard there is a belly pump that I could use with more ease. I have a coupler that is to somehow connect in the belly pump to convert over. What is the procedure in doing this. Is it complicated for the novice?

A couple questions.

1. What do you have for a pump now?
2. What do you hope to gain by switching to the belly pump?

I ask this because if you have a PTO pump the belly pump would be slightly better because it would free up your PTO. If you have a live pump either driven off the front of the crankshaft or located in front of the distributor, you will loose the advantage of the live power when you go to the belly pump on an M.

If an M is the same as an H And I understand the question then you have a stanless rod that goes between the rearend and pump it has extruding slots on the end you match it up with the internal slots. Then slide two round sleeves out over the slotted area and put a cotter key in each end to hold the two sleeves in place.
The sleeves actually hold the rod in place so it doesnt fall out. Does this make since JON

MagMan, while the belly pumps are similar, they will not interchange, and the coupler used for the M is just a short, one piece item. It needs to be slid into place as the pump is being installed, it cannot be installed after the pump is in place.

So The day I removed the Pump on that M and that little silver dollar size thingy fell out thats what it was eh I wondered about that and figured it must have been something like that. I took the pump apart for parts and didnt have to put it back in if I would have I would have known better To think it was the same as an H but that was about 5 years ago and I think I have forgotton more about mechanic work than most people these days will ever learn.I know my Kids have no Interest at all in it becuase Dad will fix it. Jeeze I have learned about those little Farmalls not having waterpumps this week and Hs and Ms dont have the same seasonal disconect for the Hyd pump. See you can teach an old Dog new tricks. I have a feeling Allen from NE will have a reply to that one. JON
