I broke the tractor apart earlier this year to put in a new TA, it is a 400. And the hydraulic oil ran out about 2 gallons. I ran it for awhile and forgot to put the oil back in it. Just this week I put a loader on it and I can not get any pressure. I tried to prime the pump through the hole in the top and it bubbled a lot and I could hear a sucking noise but could not get the lines to fill up with oil. Does anyone know what the problem is? The tractor has not run any hydraulic implements for about 10 years.

Thanks,

David

You've been running it DRY, and you wonder why it doesn't work anymore??? Sheesh!

The pump is ruined, shot, dead, worthless. You can't run a hydraulic pump dry. It needs the oil to lubricate the impellers, or they just rub on each other and wear out.

Did ya try taking the plug out of the top of the pump ?? and you could also try pressure priming it by forcing some air into the fill plug and if this don't work then the other thing is is your pressure releif stuck?? and if all the above does not work then replace the pump.

In response to tractor vet.

Yes I did take the plug out of the top of the pump. That is where I tried to prim it with about 2 quarts of oil. It would bubble and and spray some oil out but I never could get it to take prime.

Thanks,

David

David,

If you have to "prime" an oil pump to make it work, it is on it's last days anyway. Sounds to me like ya need a pump.
