How hard would it be to find a stud that connects the carb to a IH 240 to the intake manifold? It's about 2 in long and has coarse threads on the bottom fitting into the carb flange and fine threads on top where a nut tightens it onto the manifold flange. One on my carb has fine threads that are pretty well stripped. Should I just run a smaller die over it and try to fix it that way? thanks.

Part number 50705D at Case-IH. I would think that they would still be avalible, since that same stud was used in many of their carbs. Two studs would probably cost less than a die, and are a sure fix. If the first couple of threads on the stud are still good (good enough to get a nut or a die started), you sure could try to clean them up with a die of the same size, which would be 5/16" NF.

K.B., I think I found one at a local auto parts place (not NAPA), the kind with old myopic geezers like me behind the counter, not a bunch of high school kids with names like Trey and Brent. Old Gus had a NYC phone book of dual threaded studs and kindly dragged out several samples for me to fondle. I selected the 5/16ths one that was 1.75 in long and paid the man 72 cents. I think it will fill the bill. Can't wait for Saturday to find out. Thanks again.

Was a little long but dia and threads were right on. Hacksaw and works like a champ. Thank, guys.

Try your local NAPA for a replacement stud.

Thanks, gentlemen. I will take that part # and give NAPA a try. Already re-died to the same dia/pitch at my regional former IH-Case dealer (one old gent who is 86 yrs old & still barely keeping the door open) and it didn't hold. He didn't have a replacement on hand but can no longer find everything in his inventory.
