A few weeks (maybe months) ago someone contributed tranny/rear-end noise to the front bearing in the transmission.Since yesterday was Nov.1,the offical day to start winter projects,I decided to tear the 'B' down, replace some gaskets and repaint it.(Not all in one day)Anyway ,I did notice some play between the inner and outer races of thisbearing. Do you think a lot of the noise can be eliminated by replacing this bearing? I realize they weren't the quietest tractors to begin with, but I have heard a bunch of them that were quieter than mine.John.

Most of the time a new input bearing has made the tranny a lot more quiet. Also you can run 140wt trans oil will help some more.

I’m going to yes unconditionally yes. I’m not sure if you have the bearing out and clean, (if you do, do you really want to put it back in?) are seeing the play with it in the transmission by applying side pressure, (in this case you should replace it) or it is so bad that you can move it by hand (again replace!). I won’t guarantee that replacing the bearing will eliminate the noise, but you will feel better after it is back together again.

I guess I could have been clearer in my question,I am going to replace the front bearing. My question is,Will this eliminate most of the noise?John.Everything else looks and feels fine in the transmission.

Difficult to answer and be 100% sure I’m right. The only consolation that I can give you is that you tried and if everything else checks out (bearings are tight and run smoothly and pinion and ring gear are properly adjusted) there isn’t much else I know of that you can do to eliminate the noise.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply, since I added another seat and steering wheel to the right side of it for the grandkids,It does seem to get a lot more road trips down to the DQ with a six year old co-pilot.John.

There would have been more room for the extra seat on the left side : )
