IH 7788, we just had this dicussion a few days ago we're not sure if there were one or three made. One fellow said he knew a person who owned all three sizes somewhere in the Dakotas I think. If so it could be the only one made. It had a V-8 diesel pretty much like the one in the 4586 probably why they didn't make anymore Doah! did I say that? The tractor was made at the Steiger plant in Fargo.

Oh, and also 7588, I know of a few 7388's made because I've seen one of those working around here up the road. Awesome looking anteater. The 7588 also featured the DVT800 diesel engine. I had to wait till I got home to look at my Fall 1983 Buyers guide and they had never made it to the Nebraska test as of the publication of that manual.

In terms of # produced, the Super MTA was quite short lived production wise at around 2500 units.

The McCormick Deering W14 only produced around 1200 I think, so that would be a pretty rare find also.

Of the mainstream model Farmalls (Cub, A,B,C,H, M and their respective super siblings) The C was produced in far less numbers than any of the others.

I am sure someone has the exact #'s available, those are just a few facts I know off the top of my head, they should be close to accurate.

Brian: Your 2500 figure for SMTA is not correct. I don't know the exact figure right off hand, but I will take CNKS as gospel. I have looked this up in past so I know he is very close, probably dead on.

As for your attach on Dave, grow up. He was clearly using a figure of speech. It is possible to look at a lot of tractors, and many you can eliminate very quickly for various reasons. I can remember looking for a used skid steer loader 30 years ago. I must have looked at 2,000 of them, many nothing more than reading the add. I bought a new skid steer, figured I'd save driving and looking at machines not as advertized. Right today I am looking for a few items, and it surprises me the number of tractors not as advertized. Vendors of these can get away with this as they know 75% of old iron buyers, lack the experience to sort it out.

As for Dave and I, we come from two different old Euorpean stock of people, neither of which are noted for parting with their money very easily. That also is not very common anymore. You may laugh, but this has served us well.

Hugh (and Dave), I meant no ill will by my prior post and apoligize if it came across that way. Sorry my numbers were so far off....I am going by what I read in a book at home and I should know better than to trust one source of info as truth. Probably the author left out a zero.

I was just funnin around with the looking at 2500 tractors comments...I guess I took it as him physically looking at the actual tractor not just an ad.

I don't laugh at your parsimounious ways....heck I spent the better part of 4 days looking for the best buy on an exhaust manifold....and talked to 20 different suppliers.

Please accept my sincere apology for my errant numbers and frivolous comments.

Brian: I really don't think any great apology is necessary. Many of us have spent far too many hours putting together some of this old iron. Not sure about Dave, but I'm sure I have. I have three of the little offset Farmalls and in my lifetime have owned three others. Most of these were bought to acquire attachments or implements.

The tractors I currently have are Super A, 130 and 140. I have 14 fast hitch implements, 2 sets of row crop cultivators, a snow blade and a Woods belly mower. All but two of the fast hitch implements are either partially or completely fabricated by myself or I hired someone to do it. If I count the time and miles I've clocked, plus the money spent, less what I've taken in as I have sold a few items, this entire collection is worth $35,000. Do you suppose I would ever get offered that for it? Not bad economics for a Scotsman. Is the Dutchman in MI laughing? Probably !!! I had hoped we would get another rise out of him.

I'm sure there were more MTA's around than that. I think I LOOKED at more than that before I bought one! Check your numbers.

WOW Dave....you looked at 2500 SMTAs before you bought one? How long did that take you? You must have went through an awful lot of tires, not to mention chin whiskers. I never knew any human that looked at 2500 of the same tractor before buying one. Even if you looked at 1 a day every day for 6 years straight you would not have looked at 2500. But hey.....why would you lie about it?
I don't know if my numbers are spot on, would love to know the actual numbers from IH. Hey....I'd bet you could charge a great big finders fee for other tractor buffs if you are willing to put in 6 years time shopping.

Might consider the experimental HT-340 turbine, since I guess there is only one of those.

I read in the Sept./Oct. Red Power magazine about Wayne Hutton's experimental "M", one of the test tractors that IH didn't scrap for some reason. Called an M8, it has a Hi-Lo shift and live PTO.It was at Red Power Roundup.

Pretty broad question, you need to narrow it down a bit. To me, the most rare tractor is the one I don't have, and that covers a lot of bases.
