What kind of mounted trailer winch do I need to load up a non running, flat tires, Super M? (loading onto a heavy duty car hauler... I was looking at Warn winches, and some chicago electric winches out of the Harbor frieght catalog- they have a 2000lb capacity (single line) winch for $120... So could I use a snatch block/pulley and get 4000lbs out of it? I mainly use the trailer to haul old cars and tractors... no bigger than a Farmall M for weight.

Also you will need a LARGE hi amp battery to operate this winch.but for a 1 time loading I have just used a 4 ton come along takes a little time but a whole lot cheaper than a winch. And I would stay away from habor frieghts winches they are not as good as one would think niebhor put a 2000lb on his atv the winch stalled out after 2nd wrap on drum and the mud was not that deep we pushed it out by hand.

I have an 8 ton (16000 lb) Winch on my GN flat bed and sometimes it is not quite enough. Was trying to load a 340 NF with one rear flat and fronts flat, was using a snatch block and couldn't quite get it up over the hump. The flats really add to the load. If you can get air in them just long enough to load it helps more than you think.

A two-ton wench is plenty.

I agree with John in Ne. Nothing less than 10,000# Do it right the first time and you will be happy, buy less than you need and you will wish you hadn't.

And get a suitable snatch block. They can make all the difference.

I bought a 6000 single line pull at TSC,The only timeI have used it was to pull my neighbors 94 Bonneville onto a car trailer. It worked,(Barely!)But I wouldn't attempt to pull a tractor on my trailer with it.Thats what I bought it for,but I don't think it will work.Don't buy anything under #10,000 for a winch.I did and I wish I hadn't have.John.

BTW,The #6000 they mention is just for the first wrap on the winches cable drum,The capacity falls off a bunch after that.John.

I use one with 3500lbs pull and at times that is just enough to load the car/trcuk or tractor. I even have a hand winch just in case I have to help to other one, its 1000lbs. So under good conditions the 2000lbs will do but if you ever get one that the brakes are locked up etc it will probably not be enough.

The 2000 lb capacity is going to be for a dead weight pull. The Super M is going to weigh about 5100 lbs. Unless you have a rear-end or a wheel bearing frozen it shouldn't pull that hard. The less incline you can manage with the ramps the better. Or even it you can point the trailer down hill. Then you just have to make sure that you mount the winch to something solid enough to support the strain.
