hydraulic oil in the crankcase on JD 60

Would putting this oil in damage the engine. Guy says it wont run right because it has this oil in it. what would it do?

After reading your post carefully:

Some collectors fill the crankcase to prevent corrosion. Hydraulic oil is cheaper and will serve this purpose.

Often this is done with JD tractors because they are to look at, not use.

If this is the case, he is right, drain it and add motor oil to run it.

Remember, there are more JD's in collections than IH's because the IH's are still earning their keep.

Dan,

Didn't hurt it a bit; just drain it out and put the correct engine oil in it.

If that old 60 isn't running right, I doubt it is because someone put the wrong oil in it.

You have a repair shop? What would it do? Looks to me like you get to replace the engine, or at least the pistons, sleeves, valves, bearings and crank if he ran it any time at all. Hyd fluid is roughly equivalent to 10W, and does not have the lubricating properties that engine oil requires.

First, those JDs never ran right in the first place. Second, why would anyone put hydraulic oil in the crankcase? You might want to post this on the JD discussion board.
