ON my Super A while cleaning the paint off finding traces of blue on the rear lift assembly, and the touch control levers so far. Interesting have never seen blue on thes parts on a restord tractor.

Unclear what parts you are talking about. Some rear rockshafts were blue. It is not a part of the tractor. I guess that is what you are refering to as "rear lift assembly."

If the levers you are refering to are the hand control levers next to the governor control, they were red when new.

I also have found traces of blue on IH equipment that I know for a fact never was painted blue. I suspect it has something to do with the various pigments used in the red paint, some of those pigments fade away, leaving just the blue. This is pure speculation on my part, others with more insight may have more info.

IH was pretty variable in what was red and what was blue on the Cub/Super A and C during the late 40"s. Check out the URL below for the official IH paint committe decision on this. For even more info, read the next decision after tis one, 168-1. If you found blue paint under there, it was blue when new. Guy Fay"s Farmall Letter Series Originality Guide covers this a little bit.

I believe that was for touch control implements, not the touch control on the tractor. I read all four pages, and while confusing at first glance, after reading again, I interpret the terms "operating unit" and "touch control machines" to be implements attached to the tractor, as well as other trailing implements. I don't believe any part of any Farmall tractor was ever blue, only the implements. I didn't find anything in Guy Fay's book about this -- if it's there please give me the page number.

Look on the bottom of p. 39. There is a pic of a Super A with blue lift arms and linkage. The gist of it is that sometimes they were red, sometimes blue. I have a 1948 Super A and I could find no trace of blue on my lift arms.

You are correct, the actual touch control unit was red.

I will try to wiggle out of that one by saying that the rear lift arms were not part of the original tractor, but it was so equipped when it was purchased with rear mounted implements. I had seen that picture and never gave it a second thought, as I considered it to be a part of the implement rather than the tractor. The picture at the top of the page shows the same lift arms painted red. I still don't think that an original part of the tractor, such as the front rockshaft or the touch control levers were ever blue -- unless on the early tractors, IH chose to so that the touch control was emphasized -- could be, but I was 10 years old when the Super A and C came out, and always looked at the new tractors, whenever I went with my dad to the dealer (we never had a Super A or C, though) and picked up their advertising literature, and don't remember it that way. Where's Hugh McKay when you need him?

Possible I suppose, but I am talking about loaders and such for the bigger H and M tractors. I can't imagine that these were painted blue and then repainted red before they left the factory, but anything is possible.

I have a Super A and a C, neither has the rear lift assembly. Since it is actually part of the tractor, I would think it would be red, as I don't think any part was ever blue, only parts on implements. I am sure the touch control levers are red -- probably someone liked blue and painted your tractor that way, or it was special ordered that way from the factory.
