John, you have a claim under your homeowners for the tractor. Remember this important phrase--"the tractor is used solely to service my primary residence" You get automatic coverage under your homeowners policy. The amount you are entitled to varies from state to stat. The great thing is that your insurance company has a specific department called "subrogation" which will assist in prosecution of this felon. They will also keep on top of him and garnish wages if necessary, but will do everything possible to get the $ and your deductible back. SO...take a peek at your policy under the personal property section and see what it says, then call your agent. If you need insurance advice, give me a holler; I am an insurance agent.

Hi Brian, If John has replacement coverage on his policy. Wouldn't John be entitled to another tractor of equal value? Hal

How much sentimental value does it have to you? Have you had it a long time, or is it original to your family? Go ahead and fix it if you have the time and money and it's not too far gone, think of all the stories you'll have after it's fixed. My now-departed dad helped my split my MD in the middle of winter outside and swap engine blocks, and I swear he got more milage out of telling that story than I ever did! Good luck, sorry for your loss. Post a list of any parts you need in the process (if you choose to fix it) and I bet you'll get a lot of donations from those of us that frequent this site. I would be happy to send you any leftovers I have if it'll help. Brian

What's the most support we can lend you to replace your loss? I'm not an expert but I know that some of the advice I've gotten here has come from those that are. If this relatively new community (this Web forum) that's met here to talk about Farmalls can add any weight to your position, let us know.

Sons of little stinging insects with itches like that really irk me. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I cannot imagine my feelings if someone did that to me. I would be crushed. The law doesn't work for tractor owners, either. Good luck, and I hope you can get some justice out of this.

my opinion john, you are out of luck. He will get an appointed attorney and will never pay back more than fair market value for your above average M. And you will be dam lucky to ever get a cent even at that. Check into your homeowners insurance. see if they can help you.

that is just terrible! i wish i had something to help, if your anywhere near nm, i have a pickup and trailer, be glad to haul you parts or something if you can get some money from the #### you might be able to rebuild, or use your engine ect to build another m if its still good after you get the valve cover off, i hope you can keep the low life in jail for a considerable time, and that he gets a cell with a 350 lb dude that takes a "liking " to him!

That sure sounds like a basket case the way you describe it. Cheapest way to get most of those parts might be to buy another tractor with say a blown or stuck engine or bad transmission. I think your final decision to rebuild or not is going to depend on the general condition of parts that have not been damaged and also your desire or ability to repair it as opposed to getting another complete and functional machine. Many of the damaged pieces are major pieces requiring a great deal of labor to replace. Is this a restored tractor? I think you could be right on the edge where it may pay off better to buy a complete machine, swap the best of your original tractors parts on to that and then sell what's left over. The scrub that caused this will probably not have a plug nickel to his name.

So sorry to hear of your misfortune. I would be so annoyed that it would take me awhile to look at the thing with any sense. I wish I had something more to offer but I only have one "H". I do have a Japanese alternator for sale, and if the person who is interested doesn't buy it I'll be glad to donate it to you if you can use it. I should know this weekend. Hang in there.

John, Sorry for your misfortune. Some people don"t belong in society. I have a parts M "48, that I"d be willing to send parts from for the cost of shipping. I know what my tractors mean to me and would be glad to help out. There is no way to make up for the hours of blood, sweat, and tears we put into these old girls. Let me know. Geoff NY

I'd make him buy it at say about 10 times the value of what it was worth before he stole it.and also keep him in jail for grand theft. Of course you may need a lawyer to do some of that but it was yours.
