I rewired my H with magneto following the instructions on this website. It did not charge. I went through the Charging system diognostics on the web and came down to the genarator not charging. I have a second generator that was checked out OK a few years ago, but does not any mounting holes for the regulator. I know the second genarator came off another Farmall, but do not remember the model. Can the regulator be located some where on the tractor frame or does it need to be mounted on the genarator? Have I missed any steps to figure this out?

Thanks again Dave

Hi Dave,

I've had tractors with 'em both ways. Like Bob says, it really doesn't matter where they are mounted as long as they are grounded. If on mounted on the generator, they need to be shock mounted in rubber, 'cause that generator vibrates.

Here's how I've got this one set up:

The regulator can be mounted anywhere on the tractor chassis, so long as it's wired correctly, and is grounded. The mounting bolt area needs to be clean and free of rust or paint. If the regulator is mounted with rubber strips or grommets, there is a grounding pigtail or strap that jumpers around the rubber mount to ground the regulator. It is imperative that this ground conductor be present and in good condition for the system to operate.
