ok I have heard several different opinions from different sources so I figured I would ask you boys (and girls). What type of fluid do you guys like to put in the hydraulic reservor on the Super C's. I was planning on using plain ol Hy-Tran oil but others have suggested straight SAE-30. All opinions are welcome. Thanks

Use HyTran. If you are concerned about leakage, put a new seal or oring on it. If you find the shaft grooved, then it's a good thing you took it apart because it needed to be fixed anyway -- you can use a speedy sleeve to cover the groove. As noted below, some people do use 30W, but 10W was the fluid IH recommended before touch control fluid/hytran was produced.

I love it when this subject comes up. I think the concensus would be HyTran. However, I use 30wt in mine. The reason being, if the seals in the pump fail, the fluid runs to the crankcase. I would rather run a little thicker oil than spec"d in the hydraulic system than have thinned out oil in the crankcase. Call me crazy, but that"s my take on it.

Thats a good way to look at it but I live in an area where the weather is pretty cold a good part of the year and the main use of the hydraulics is a snow plow. How do you think the thicker weight oil will act during cold weather? Have you have any problems?

Good point. Here in central Alabama I haven't had to plow any snow lately (the day I do is the day I move to Costa Rica). Besides, if you have rebuilt the pump recently, you shouldn't have any leakage any time soon. To each his own.
