I bought a Super C last month that is complete, except for the engine head. I am new to the red tractor scene, so I don"t know much about the interchange of parts. I was told that a head off of a C-113 or a C-123 engine would work. Can you fellas point me in the right direction?

You will need a head with the casting number of 251172 or you can put a 340 head and manifold on and get more power out of you SC. I would have either head if you are interested in one.

Hi Bob,
The head from a 113 will work. I have been using one on my Super A for years that has a 123 block from a Super C. By the way, I have 3 of these; e-mail if interested.

Hi Bob, The C113 head will probably fit your tractor, but the Super A, Super AV and Super C
use "rotocaps" rotators on the exhaust valves.
They use a valve spring that measures 2 9/64" in length too.

If the tractor is going to be used in heavy work, I would recommend having harden valve seats installed. I would look at the exhaust valves in that head to see how thick they
are. They claim you can use them when they are only 1/32" thick, I think that is too thin. Check with your machine shop for their opinion.
What ever happened to the original head? Has this C113 head been magnafluxed? Hal

Thanks for the reply Hal!

I don't have either head at this time. I purchased the tractor from an estate and the whereabouts of the original head is unknown. I will be looking to purchase a head soon, so I'll keep everyone in mind.

Hi Bob, I would purchase one of those Super C head's from the person that responded to your posting. Then it will have the correct rotocaps
and springs on it. Good Luck, Hal
PS: I would like to find a Super C like that too.

Fellow near me has a head off a C-113 for sale. Recently lapped the valves. Don't know what he's asking for it. E mail me if interested and I'll get the casting number and the price.

I don't think the C113 will work on the Super C seeing how it is a C123 engine. The difference between the two was bore size so I don't think it'll work. I have been wrong before though.

I don't know if it would work either. That is why I noted if there was an interest, I would get the part number. The parts CD lists several different heads for the Super A, some are the same as listed for the Super C. The C has the C-113 engine and it lists some of the same heads as for the Super C. Thus, I think the heads will enterchange, but there may be other differences such as different holes on the outside for attachments and differences in the valves as noted in other posts.
