Previous owner removed kill terminal cover and wired an external automotive coil onto the kill terminal. I supose this was to use the mag as a point to make the tractor run. ANyway, no spark, and I have 12v at the coil. Does this method work? Should I expect to rebuild the mag? ANyone done this, seen it done?

Parts Guy here in western PA said just and a coil to the H4 mag., if that is not what you are using I'm not sure, If you are close I have a extra coil. for fmj's . I have not tried the back wire system yet but about to , Have a WD that is driving me nuts.

Oh where to start??? The only thing with that is you have to have a battery and charging system to run the mag. Alls they have done is bypassed the internal coil. The inside rotor of the mag still spins and breaks the points. So probly if you have power to the coil do you have power leaving the coil?? If yes I would replace the condenser and replace or file the points to 13 thousands. Actually you may be able to open them a hair more than that . I have never exsperimented with an external coil.. If you want a rebuilt mag let me know. Or Parts also. And as long as yours has an internal coil still I would take it for a core . Thats if you wanted another mag that is. JON
