I just started rebuilding my 2nd H carb. In the first one I used a kit from Tractor Supply, and in the 2nd one I used a kit from CNH. If you want ALL the parts, buy both kits. The problem I have is the idle jet (small tube in the top of the base with the screwdriver slot.) Someone had tried to remove it in the past and broke the screw slot off. (Dang) Does anyone know a good trick to remove these jets? The Tractor Supply kit comes with a new one, but the dealer (CNH) kit does not. ken

I have drilled them out and went to a gunsmith for the correct tap. If my memory is correct it was a #5 machine screw size; not sure how many threads per inch.
There are 2 idle tubes available from your dealer;1 for distillate & 1 for gasoline usage in the engine. They do not come in a carb kit.
I have since purchased my own thread tap. If you want, send an e-mail & I can get out to the shop & find the proper size for you tomorrow.

Wayne, That would sure be a big help if I knew for sure the right size tap. I'm guessing 5-40, but I haven't located my old thread gague yet. I will need to buy a tap because plan "B" didn't work. The jet broke off flush in the bottom.

Did either kit contain the spray tube ? It is the long brass tube that sticks up, at an angle, from in front of the main jet into the venturi.

The kit from TSC had both jets but the kit from CIH (CNH) etc didn't have any jets. The TSC kit had a new choke shaft & butterfly, but the CIH kit didn't. The TSC kit didn't have the small spring & ball to hold the choke open, but the CIH kit had em. Also, the TSC kit had the felt seal for the choke shaft, but was missing the retainer. The CIH kit had em both. The TSC kit no felt drain plug or retainer, but the CIH kit had em..... .whew, what a mouthfull ken

Slightly different subject, but might be something to check. After installing a rebuilt carb on an "H" I found that it leaked. problem was that the pin that holds the float was slightly short and could slide sideways enough to let the float drop down. I made a new one, and everything works as it should.

I had the same problem with an H. Took it to a supposed carb expert and they drilled it out but I was not completely satisfied with the results. I got the new tube in and it works but I have doubts as to how well. Since then I've talked to those who have a lot more experience than I and they've said that they'd just make sure the inside of the tube was clean and leave it alone.

I learned the hard way also on a carb off of my 66 Oliver RC; first tried to remove it, took the grove off, then proceeded to attempt to drill it, 2nd wrong move! The sad thing about it was this was a carb I had purchased to replace the original which was cracked. Needless to say, every carb from then on, just blew it out with carb cleaner--has worked every time so far!

Just my two cents.

Dave,

Good advice. Why pull the darned jets anyway; makes absolutely no sense at all.

I thought about ez- outs, but I would need a set like a jeweler uses. The tube I need to remove is only about 1/8" dia., and its recessed in a 1/4 inch hole. As a last resort, I guess I'll try to drill it out and re-tap the threads.

You guys are right on leaving them alone. But in this case the orfice is awful..ha ha, its buggered on the end and I have no idea what size it is. I have the letter & number drills, but no info on the size. Anyway, I have a plan now. Just a trip to the parts store.

Had same problem with idle jet on my W9. Got the right size left hand drill bit and it came right out. New one screwed in perfect. New jet at CaseIH was about $18.00.
