My Super A is not charging. I had the generator rebuilt. It has a cutout relay. Did some of these tractors come with a cutout or has someone changed it? I also need a wiring diagram if anyone has one. Thanks

Others comments about grounding of relay and polarizing apply. I bet the generator is not charging because it needs to be polarized. Likely your A is positive ground and generator shops these days probably polarized it for negative ground. The A tractor charging system used a cutout relay mounted on top of the generator. If that is what you have, it is probably original. You can replace the cutout with a voltage regulator. Aftermarket regulators are available that mount on the generator just like the cutout relay. No one but you will likely notice that there is a regulator instead of the original cut out relay. The system will work better with the regulator and you don't have to worry about setting the charging rate with the switch.

Did you polarize it with the engine off. Use a jumper and momentary go from the A terminal on the gen to the Batt term on the cutout should draw a spark. Then if it doesent charge with the engine running ground the field term on the gen. If it charges with the gen F term grounded the cutout is bad.or has a poor ground to the gen. You can run with the FIELD term grounded aslots of them are running that way. Does your generator have the third brush that is adjustable?
