Has anybody here ever transplanted a small diesel (Isuzu/Yanmar/Kubota) into an F12 or F14 chassis? I've seen a couple of them, and they look quite original from a distance.

I'm really, REALLY tired of fighting the down-draft carb and crank start on my F14 and am contemplating a swap along these lines.

Any comments/experience appreciated.

I never heard of a Farmall using Isuzu's, but a company in CA is installing them in the Allis-Chalmer tractor that had the rear mounted Continental engine. I must be getting old I can not recall that tractor model. I finally remembered it was the "G". Hal

Good ta hear John, glad it worked out for ya.

I just talked to a buddy in the car repair business. He knows a wrecker driver that may have a line on an old Chevy LUV pickup with a Suzy in it. Might be able to pick up the whole works for scrap prices...

You can put a starter on the PTO. A friend of mine did that and has the plans on his computer. With the starter on the PTO, you put transmission in neutral and PTO in gear and start with clutch engaged. Starter system consists of surplus automotive flywheel and starter connect to pto shaft.

Man, I hate to see a running old thing cut up. I just have a feeling in the long run it would be cheaper and easier for you to find yourself another tractor and let someone save the one you have. I don't know how many times I have upgraded and improved what ever piece of crap I had to find that I would have shed a lot less blood and speant less on something much better than I ended up with. A good example was my first real computer a $2,500 486DX. Yah! it was going to last me for ever!!!

In general, I agree.

However, F12/F14's are hardly rare. There's plenty of nice originals out there. This one was already modified fairly heavily when I "rescued" it outta the puckerbrush.
