Will a loader on a M break a IH WF?

I've been looking for a WF for my M and the best deals I have found are the IH tie rod in front. It has live HD. I'm going to put a loader & PS, on it mostly to move cut brush & some sandy dirt. Its really pretty light weight work, mostly bulky. Most of the posts I've read favor Schwartz or IH later style with a loader. Surprise to me I am finding Schwartz more than IH. I'm already going to put more money into it than I should. Will the early IH be too weak? Do they break often? Where do they break, at the axel adapter? It’s certainly no savings if I break it. Thanks for any advice.

We used an M with old style wide front years ago with Lions industrial hi lift loader and wide fork. We had some problems breaking spindles but part of this was because we irrigate with corrigations so the ground is rough. We also had "Armstrong" power steering.

My one caution to you would be to make sure you don't have so big a bucket the it can swing back far enough to break that pitman arm. I have an aquaintance who is as dumb as paste, and keeps snapping his off every winter and has to have it rewelded. I would manually move the bucket full swing to make sure you have adequate clearance. This is assuming a trip bucket of course!

MM,

We used to stack heavy alfalfa hay using a M and that old wide front under a F-10 and that big hay sweep....I think the thing was 14' across. Used to make stacks so tall that we had to use the push-off to make the lid. Seems to me the things reached 27' or so.

Anyway we did this for years and always were lifting some he!!ashous loads with it.

I've never seen one break....maybe others have or maybe with rough treatment they will give way.

I think they are pretty darned tough.

The reason people like the Swartz fronts is because they turn shorter.

Hope this helps,

Allan
