Guy has an H that gas is getting into the oil. turns gas off after use and before starting. says it runs fine. How could the gas be getting into the oil and how can it be fixed?

Hi Don,

That tractor feeds by gravity and therefore the only possible way it could be thinning the oil, is by doing it while the tractor is running.

He just "thinks" it is running fine; it is either loading causing it to run way too rich or it has a cylinder missing pushing unbrunt fuel.

A few things that will cause this: 1. Needle/seat/float problem.
2. Carb enrichment problem (adjustment).
3. Choke problem or partially on all the time.
4. Dead hole pumping unbrunt fuel.
5. Engine running cold.
6. Bad compression.

Hope ya get er,

Allan

I have one more thought to add, which I admit is almost as probable as the Red Sox coming back from a 0-3 deficit against the Yankees in post season to tie at 3-3, but since that has happened I offer this “long shot” up for consideration.

In addition to all what Allen and others have said, there is at least one other possibility if it is truly gas getting in the oil. If the shut off under the tank is not working, it is possible that the needle and seat are letting excessive fuel into the float bowl and the drain on the bottom of the carburetor is plugged allowing it to be filling so full of gas that it is leaking past the throttle shaft bushings, into the tube between the governor and the carburetor and into the pan.

If this is the case, I don’t see how the engine can start, much less run ok. Something here is not quite adding up.

Mronin' Capt,

I agree and the first thing I would be asking myself is why does this fella have to shut that fuel valve off?

Something is surely wrong and you've got to watch and listen to what the tractor is trying to tell ya. :>)

I agree, I never shut off my fuel, too damn lazy I guess, besides I never had to.

I presume that you live in Husker land, I'm curious as to where. I would appreciate it if you would drop me a note, e-mail is released.

Thanks,

Remove the gas line at the carb to see if fuel flows with the shutoff valve closed.

Sounds like the gas shut off isn't shutting off all the way. Also probably has a carb problem,i.e. float needle valve isn't work right.

It sounds likeit could be a heavy float, ie hole in float gas getting in and making it to heavy and sink causing it to overflow. Then floats can stick in the bowl sometimes on the sides causing the needle to stay open and as the other person said needle and seat has something in it causing it to not shut and letting to much gas in also. there is three things to check JON
