Anyone know what the orginal battery to come with Farmall Tractors were? I'm guessing that it was an Autolite. Wouldn't have been a Ford or Mopar so does anyone know for sure?

As with many purchased items, IH used more than one source. The mix probably changed over time though.

They used quite a few Autolite batteries in the late '50s and into the '60s.

Hi Jim,

Boy, I dunno "bout that. IH was in direct competition with Ford. Why in the world would they buy their batteries?

Maybe a dealer here and there slipped one in, but doubt if IH ever did.

All IH trucks came with Delco batteries too.

Allan: Don't be so damn naive, they bought from the source that best suited them. Usually the only criteria was price. I've seen new IH tractors and trucks with different brands of batteries, tires, etc.

I have a Maintenance Manual that has a picture of a 240 Utility with an Auto-lite battery. The battery is identical style to the on that was in a 240 Utility that was a few years old when we got it.

Once in a while they bought bolts from John Deere too.

I have to agree with Allan. Also, Autolite was a division of Ford motor company, which was a competitor of IH.
