it's not oil this is black, now that i look back it seems to have gradually gotten worse and it does seem to have lost some pep. i can hear the whistle but it too seems to be less. their are no exaust leaks and the air filters are new oil consumption is around 2 qts per 100 hrs. the timing is set to 18 degrees. just going down the road it leaves a visible trail. unfortunately i don't have access to a dyno unless i go to the dealer which i want to avoid. if i put a pressure gage in the intake manifold can i determine if the turbo is working properly? if so does someone have the readings i should expect. thanks for any help Jeff

I believe the intake boost pressure on that tractor should be about 16 psi at full load.I'm pulling that figure out of my head. It's been several years since I've checked one but that should be close. If the HP has been turned up it will be higher.Bad injection nozzles will also cause this problem.Don't overlook a flat camshaft. If the valves are not fully opening it can't breath properly

Yup it's time for a rebuilt injector pump and while your at it keep the check book out and replace the injectors to. My 1066 had the same symtoms. New pump and injectors and she was a roaring beast again.

I am definately not an expert on diesels but what you describe sounds more like an injection pump problem than the turbo.

Sounds "xactly like an injection pump goin" bad.

However, if that turbo has a seal leaking and it"s pushing lube oil out the exhaust it could cause a bit of smoke. But, this ususally shows up as a messy leak at the turbo area too.

Whaddda mean, you"re no diesel expert, Rusty? Ya are too! :>)
