Thanks for your suggestions on my previous question. I took the top cover off the transmission and you guys were right about the oil slinger; the teeth are all broken off. I can't fix the oil slinger until next spring so I'd like to run the tractor without the pto and I know not to idle it in neutral. My question now is with all the teeth are off the slinger gear can I leave the remaining center piece on the shaft the way it is or should I try to crack it off with a chisel? Or can I just clean out all the metal pieces, flush it out and refill with clean oil? Thanks in advance for your help.

i would flush it out so as not to picup pieces in the gears and mess something else. If the teeth are gone leave the gear in there as it wont turn without teeth it has a brass bushing in the center and is not keyed or fastened to the shaft.
