Where can I find information for the year our McCormick Farmall 230 tractor was manufactured?
The serial number is 5490J with a number stamped on the motor body of 3S 6615 R1 and under that is 27. We have had the tractor for 30 some years. So would like to get a little history prior to our purchase. The tractor has been completely restored and is in great shape.

230,s were built in 1956- 1958. They were handy tractors. My Dad and Uncle farmed togather from the early 50"s until it the early 70"s and they had two 230"s. Before they had a haybine we mowed, Plowed, raked, pulled wagons had a 2 row fast hitch corn planter and cultivator, pulled the drill. At that point we were farming with an M, 330U, and two 230"s. My book shows yours to be a 1957.

Go to left under research serial number shows a 1957 model. I have a 1958 230 that's been totaly trashed I don't have the hart to junk her out. I have a lot of parts from other tractors to at least get her running and fill in the stuff I'm missing from other bone yards.
