I have what is suposed to be a 1950 Farmall M. (according to serial number.) It has disc type brakes. I am told by some people that the M didn't come with disc brakes, only the super M. I would appreciate any information on this. Thanks

Lots of older Ms were changed to disc brakes Lambert also made a kit for them.

If 3 bolts are holding brake covers on,it's a optional lambert brake. If 5 bolts holding cover
something is switched if it is 50 model. Some M in
52 came with disc brakes like SM.

What serial # are you refering to The motor or bell housing. And some one may have switched out the rearend.Check some of the casting #s from front to rear and see what the prefix is also. Just a few things that come to mind . JON

Thanks to all who posted an answer to my question.
The serial # I was referring to is on the bell housing. I am not sure I understand about how to check the casting numbers.

In the format month*day*year, ie, 6*15*T means the piece was cast on June 15, 1950. If your tractor was assembled early in 1950, it probably has some S (1949) castings also.
