Thanks for the help on my previous question. Do I have to watch for any small parts flying out when I take off the top plate on the transmission of the A? Also I have the PTO on the back of the case. Any special precautions on removing for inspection. The manual shows springs and balls and shift forks. Any tips are appreciated as I've never opened the transmission case.

To ease re-assembly, it helps if it is in neutral when you take it apart. The cover should lift straight up, no parts to fly around. The detent springs and balls are held in place by the shifter forks which are held in place by sheetmetal brackets. If it's your oil slinger, and if you never use your PTO, you can safely operate the tractor without the slinger gear. That might let you put off the repair for a few months.
