My Mom has a Farmall Super A that is in good running order. How do I tell what the model year is? I am having trouble seeing the serial number.

Deb: Super A were built between 1947 and 1954. Serial tag is on the left seat support. Some of those numbers can be a bit worn by now, but a little rubbing with a household clenser should highlight the numbers.

The engine serial number as gene suggested, just under number 1 spark plug, stamped into a machined surface. All castings on your tractor have casting date codes, these are day and month by number and year by letter. On tractor these look like they have a round head screw cast between each day, month and year. On the letters X is 1952, Y is 1953, Z is 1954 and A is 1955. V was not used. You can go back or foreward from that. These codes will also tell you if castings have been replaced over the years.

There is a # on a flat spot below the front spark plug behind the throttle shaft that can help but you have no way of knowing if the engine has been changed. what are the cast# beside the clutch pedal on the transmission.

On some of the castings there should be a number like 6-10-c etc the year is the last number/digit but its in code C is like a 1958 but not sure of the reast of them
