Well, I finished replacing the head gasket of the 560 this past weekend. I got it up to temp and retorqued. So far, no leaks. The sleeves, block and head all looked in good shape. Let's hope it holds.

Have any of you guys left the heat sheild that goes under the tank off before? I drilled the spot welds out so I could take this off. That allowed me to pull the head without having to take all of the tank mounting brackets off the tractor.

A couple of years ago I had a customer that had a 706 gas and said that when he was working the tractor in the field the gas got hot enought to boil in the fuel tank. When I check out the tractor I found that there was no heat shield installed on his tractor. I found a heat shield in a tractor salvage yard and got it installed very quickly. The exhaust manifold is only a few inches from the tank, so it stands to reason, the tank is going to get hot.

If you want to take a chance go ahead, IH must of thought it needed it or they would have left it off.
