52 super M. heres the stroy in a nutshell. We pulled the starter and had it rebuild (tractor was running at this time). put the starter back on and now the tractor wont hit a lick! I put plugs, wires, cap, points, condensor, rotor button, and a resistor thing(?) on it. I HAVE NOT put a coil on yet, gonna try that in the next day or two (depends on my work schedual). Its getting fuel, and I believe the starter is spinng it fast enough. Any suggestions? Thanks,Nahtan

Did you have a wire for ignition power attached to the starter when it was running and forgot to reattach it after rebuilding the starter?
If there is no spark try working back to the ignition switch to locate where you lost the voltage source.

Did you change the spark plug wires one at a time? If not, are you sure they are connected to the correct plugs? You've introduced the problem, most likely, with the new ignition parts. Start swapping the old parts back in one at a time and see if it will fire up, after you've checked the firing order to be 100% sure the plug wires areen't crossed or are installed in reverse rotation order. I've done that before myself, and it's an easy mistake to make.

Nathan - Is your Super M on 6 or 12 volts? If it's still 6 volt, get rid of that "resistor thing" - it's what's preventing it from firing!

However if it's been converted to 12 volts momentarily bypass (jumper across) the resistor and see if it fires. (It won't hurt to run it a few minutes without the resistor). If it fires with the resistor bypassed, get a new resistor!

Did you bother to check if the plugs are sparking? Rather than blasting away with the "parts shotgun" check the obvious things first. If it ain't sparking, check if the coil is getting power.

These tractors will start even if they barely turn over, if there's a decent spark, and it's timed somewhere near right.

Coil is getting power to it. Yes sir, I pulled the plugs and put and cleaned them up a bit and tried to see if they were firring. no luck there. the "parts shotgun" came in a kit for real cheap and the tractor needed new wires and plugs anyway, so no big deal there. it just didnt come with the coil. and the resistor (?) looked like it was burnt in two. timing should be right....ran fine before we took the starter off. thanks ,Nathan

How long did it sit with the starter off?

If you put the plugs in before you took the starter off, they can sometimes go bad from extended lack of use. I think it"s something with new plugs, I"ve had this happen in the last several years. No spark on a "good" plug but it is shorted out.
