Has anyone come up with a lasting repair for the throttle ratchet on an H ?

I had welded up the tooth on the lever and ground it to shape, but it still slips and is chipping the 'new' tooth. Should I try hardening the tooth ? Any other ideas ? It almost seems like the lever is bent wrong.

Thanks

Greg

If you are not concerned with keeping tractor original you might consider the friction throttles. It is a matter of personal preference but I like the friction throttle better.

Not sure if Case/New Holland still offers the part but IH made a "Tin Cap" as We called them with square notches in them and the "Tooth" in the lever was replacable. Notches were a little wider but it was very resistant to slipping. A little mill in the department I was a Production Scheduler of milled the slots on the "Tin Cap" Seems like that style was standard with the Super series of tractors.

Recently got H and seller gave me one of the square tooth throttle levers. Needs new tooth though so no better off than with the one installed. One of many things to work on this winter.

Lever bent wrong is the key.

Take the lever off, straighten it, and make sure the spring is in good shape. Washers used to compensate for a damaged or broken spring do not help for very long.

You may also have to get a triangle file to sharpen the teeth on the housing.

I used a broken H valve spring for the throttle on my H. It's not authentic, but it provides enough tension to discourage slipping out of the notches.
