My '51 Farmall M has a 6336 head, which I believe was made specifically for kerosene usage, and was wondering what effects running the head with only modern gas (lead substitute added) would have on the combustion chamber. I don't think I'll burn kerosene or do any switching between the two fuel types.

The tractor was designed to run on unleaded fuel as there was no lead in kerosene.

We ran a duel fuel H on gasoline for over 35 years doing serious farming, and had no problems. I agree with the rest, forget the lead substitute.

I agree with rusty, save your money on lead additive and put it in a jar somewhere. The worst thing that can happen is the valve seats could wear into the head. If that happens, you get a new harder seat cut into the head and you are good to go. If you want to prevent the seat from wearing you can pull the head and do the seats now. There is a chance if the engine has been apart in the last 15 years that there are already the newer harder seats in the head, in which case the lead additive is a total waste of money.

M 2 cents…

You can forget using the lead additive, you don't need it. Just pour gas in the tank and go. This tractor has been running on gasoline for probably 30 years already.

53 years -- I doubt if that tractor ever had kerosene in it.
