I have a B Farmall that does not have a serial number plate on it any longer. On the side of the engine block is stamped "6342-DH". Can I interpet that into a year model and possible get to a serial number somehow?

Thanks!

Most Bs had engine and serial numbers that matched. If your tractor has the original engine and the number is less than 201001, it is the same. Later numbers will be close.

The number you are refering to is a part number. On the right side of the engine somewhere about behind the magneto (or distributor) is a milled flat spot on the block, just below the head, roughly two or three inches wide and about an inch high which should have the engine serial number stamped in. I believe with the B it will be a six-digit number. This is the engine serial number and should be close to the tractor serial number. Check the "Serial Number" section on the left of this screen to identify the year. Also what PG says about the casting date codes.

on the block, wheel hubs, and other cast pieces it will have some numbers and then a letter. this will tell you the year the parts were cast. it will be close to the year it was built. such as 2-8-t,,,,dont have my book to tell you the letters to years. post the set of numbers and i am sure someone will know. pg
