Did they make a Super M Diesel TA? I don't know IH well but I'm thinking not as a big part of the Super was a bigger valve/higher compression head...right? My tractor collecting ideas always gravitate toward the highest factory option models. Thanks, Glenn F.

Yes Glenn - the diesel SMTA was actually designated "SMTAD". Don't believe a lot of 'em were made so they are not too common - Guy Fay may have the production numbers. However I have seen 2 or 3 at local old iron shows over the past several years so they ARE out there...

Glenn, they certainly made them, I'm not certain about a lot of things but that one is for sure because we had one. I can tell you they weren't overly blessed with power but this one also had every hydraulic gadget you could think of including power steering which I guess they tell me was an add on. Either our shop upgraded 51 M or our late Super M could plow rings around it. The late M could eat either one up but the super M gas had live hydraulics which I think slowed it down a little the M had a trip plow. One thing I can remember is the SMTAD was a bear to start in cold weather now that I think about it that may have been our fault because I don't ever remember us changing points in it and you had to keep the ignition on even on diesel to charge the battery because we used to forget to shut off the ignition after we would kill the fuel stop and run the battery down overnight, made dad real happy.
