have been contemplating buying an aftermarket 3pt for my H and would like to hear from others that have done this, particularly how does an H perform with one, what can it handle implement wise i.e. 6ft disc, 5ft mower, etc. both in power and weight and would you spend the money if could do it over?

I looked at every aftermarket brand of three point hitches for my H. I called all of the companies and talked to them. Even companies that were not on the net I contacted and had them E-mail pictures to me. I am a shop teacher at a high school and have taught all areas of shop for 20 years. I was ashamed at some of the products these companies were were selling. Welds that looked like mud dobbers nests, sharp corners on metal, poor design, etc. Some of them looked like they were built for the back of a bulldozer. Saginaws looked good but $625 plus about $100 shipping. I just gave $600 for my tractor! The saginaw was still overkill. Remember it is still a 25 hp tractor. I planned and designed my own for 2 weeks. Made it out of wood first to iron out details.(I currently teach woodworking) Then made it. Nice working system, works flawlessly, picks up any implement I need, good welds, looks good on my tractor. I put a 2 way cylinder on it so I have down pressure for blading. I have about $300 in it plus $75 for the cylinder but I have what I want. When iI get pics I will post them.

It's good you have the skill to make your own hitch -- not all of us can do that. Saginaw's hitch fits the H thru 450, from 25 to 46 hp. Probably more economical for them to make only one hitch, since the mounting points are the same on all these tractors. Maybe you only paid $600 for your tractor, but if you restore or refurbish it you will have $3000-$4000 in it by the time you are done. Unfortunately, the cost of parts doesn't go down with the age of the tractor.

My H was in working order when I bought it. Good compression, doesn't smoke, hyd. pump good, no leaking seals, etc. I cleaned it up, worked the metal, and painted it, put new decals on it, made my hitch and have been using the heck out of it. I know I was lucky to get it at the price I did but they are not that high in my area anyway. Saginaw makes an excellent hitch, I don't deny that, just overkill for most situations. Their workmanship is by far the best and you get what you pay for. I was mainly pointing out the poor quality craftsmanship on some of the other hitches.

A three point is very useful. I have worksaver. It could be better, but it works fine. If you pick up anything over 500 pounds, the front end will get light.

I agree with CNKS. I have one on my M and I love it. It only has one cylinder but it has no problem doing what I ask. It's not a Saginaw but then I didn't pay Saginaw price for it either. Not sure what the brand is. The guy I bought it from had it on an H and never used it. He said it came from down south somewhere but he couldn't remember for sure. Maybe Arkansas or Alabama.

It should handle the mower and disk ok. Heavier and you will need front weights. The best made is from www.saginawcountytractor.com--$625 plus shipping includes two cylinders, but no hoses.
