In the winter when it is really cold, the left tractor tire will freeze and I have to use the right brake to unjam the tire. Does anyone know what I might be looking for before I tear into it. Model 706 D. Thank you.

I think you may have a leaking grease seal, allowing hy-tran in the rear end to seep into the brake housing. When it gets cold this will get very sticky, especially when it gets mixed with dirt and dust from the brake pads. Needs thorough disassembly, clean it good, and replace that seal.

Sounds like the brake might be freezeing are you using park brake when you park it, if so try just leaving it in gear instead of applying the park brake, the only other thing I can think of would be water getting in rear wheel bearing and freezing god forbid, have you checked the rear end lube is it rusty colored? Usally water will go to the bottom of the houseing even if it gets in there but a friend of mine had a farmall that the water would get traped in the bearing don't know how but it did and after a while it ate the bearing up. Hope that isnt your problem. Hope this helps and didn't mean to scare you. Dave

Nice try. The 706 does not have a park brake, it has a park lock. Unlness everything is terribly worn, you can't put the tractor in gear with the park lock engaged. If you do manage to get it in gear, it makes such a crunching, clattering racket that it's pretty obvious something's wrong.

If you leave the tractor in gear instead of engaging the park lock, it will roll away. The hydraulic TA does not engage without hydraulic pressure, so there is no solid connection between engine and transmission.

Sorry didn't know it was a hydro, mine has mechanical trans with a park brake that locks the break pedals down. Have seen the brake shoes stick to the drum, causeing that.
