Working on the old M. It will only move if you put it in third gear. Any other gear or neutral just kills the tractor. We have taken the shifter out and lined everything up and it still does the same thing. Is there something goofed up under the platform or is there something simple we are missing? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Just a guess here, but if the tractor moves forward when it is in “third gear” it is probably either in first (left rail slid ahead) or fourth gear (right rail slid back). When you think you are in third gear, you actually have the third rail in the neutral position. There are notches in the middle of the dividers between the rails that the notches in the rails need to match up with for the shifter to move from side to side. If I remember correctly, there may also be other notches in the dividers that can be a bit confusing as to which need to be lined up.

Your not lining them up right. You either have all three all the way foward or all the back. They need to be in the middle.
