Thanks guys! I'm not sure where the engine came from. I bought a 504 this spring and found out later that someone extended the side rails about 8" and moved the radiator ahead and dropped the 263 engine in. The side sheet metal was also reworked and extended to match. The top hood didn't look like it was touched. Maybe came frome a 560. Everything looks like it came from the factory this way. Whoever did it did a neat job and put some time in it. Anybody else out there ever hear of such a thing?

I don't have a 606 parts book to compare with my 504 book. However, I think you will find that both tractors use the same sheet metal and rails. The F504 has gobs of space to fit a larger motor.

I am guessing the only difference between the two tractors is the motor and radiator. Maybe the clutch. Anyway, I think it is likely that you still have the original radiator which is probably undersized. That may not be a problem unless the tractor is worked hard in hot weather.

Depends on the application. A C-263 out of a 560 or 656 would be right around 65 horsepower. 706 was set at 73, while the big old 660 Wheatland cranked 80 horses out of the poor little C-263.

My dad had a 660 about the time I started farming, I farmed with it for two years then bought a 706, both with 263's. The 706 was not even in the league with the 660. 660's were set to high idle at 2700 rpm and the 706 much lower at about 2000. The 660 had the pump opened up and could it PULL. The poor 706 was over sold, we were told it would compare to the 660. So we tryed fueling it but it couldn't take the heat; #5 cylinder would fail before 600 hours. I got so good at changing that one sleeve and piston that I could run the 706 into the shop after supper and have it back out by midnight. Both of these tractors were traded on MF 1100's, 9B models, should have been 806's but IH would not stand behind the 706.

Dude, you're talking about opening up the pump and fueling the engine. The 263 is a gasser "no pump to tweak" All you got is bigger venturi in the carb and more rpm's. I got a 263 in a 560 that is cranking 75hp.

My 263 is around 70 hp with some carb work. It is a combine 263, fast governor. Most were around 63-70 hp, depends on how good they were, and the year of the engine. I would love to get about 80-85 out of a 263, would run pretty good then,, ChadS
