I'm about to put red to primer but have some questions first. What is the best amount of time you should wait before applying decals on new paint? Secondly, once you get your decals on, can you clear coat over them? Pros and Cons??

I'd wait a week or 2. Paint will dry in a few hours but gets hard as time goes by.

Heres a tip. Get a spray bottle like windex would come in. Fill it partially with water, add 3 drops of Joy Lemon Fresh dishwashing detergent, top it off with water. Spray down the surface and apply the decal.

Apparently, the Joy has glycerin in it. What this does is allows you time to move around your decal - that's right, you don't have to have it perfect right from the start! It also makes it easier to work out air bubbles if you should have them.

This method doesn't give you all the time in the world, but it does give you some. When I decaled my truck about 17 years ago, this is the method used, as recommended by the decal manufacturer, and my decals are still on there just as good as the day we put them on. No lifting, no tearing.

Good luck!

If you used hardener, maybe a couple of days, there may be no waiting period. With no hardener, I would probably wait a couple of weeks, but I always use hardener. Some people claim that the clear coat makes the decals look as if they were painted on -- I have not tried it. If you do clear coat, and are not using a base coat - clear coat system, you need to use acrylic urethane single stage, you have the choice of clear coating or not with that type paint. I have not heard of clear coating acrylic enamel with hardener, not saying you can't.

Robert, If you use hardner, you should be able to apply decals in about 24 hrs. Also if you use hardner, you shouldn"t need to apply a clear coat. I prefer acrylic paint to base coat/clear coat because I find it is easiter to cover and touch up any chips or scratches that may ensue. Just my opinion.
