I got fresh batteries in the Hough 30 loader, and some fresh fuel. I bled the filters and lines, cleaned the air filter and tried to start it. It turns over good, but only "huffed" a couple times when I sprayed some ether in the intake. What should I try next? I'm told to pull the injectors to see if they spray fuel, but others have cautioned me that it might be tough to get them resealed. Another person advised pulling the injectors and putting some 90 weight oil in the cylinders to seal the rings until it starts. I sure appreciate the help I get! Where should I go next?

Depending on what series of H30 you have it is probally the D236 engine - basically same as 282. Try getting good fuel coming out of the pupm to the injectors then crank over till smokes out exhaust hold glow plugs for 30 seconds then try.

I just went through this same problem with a tractor that had sat for several years. I changed filters, put fresh fuel in, bled the lines 10 times but still no fuel to the injectors. It turns out I had to disassemble the injector pump because the old fuel had gummed up inside and the tolerances on the injector charge pistons are in the millionths of an inch. After cleaning up inside the pump, the old girl jumped back to life once more.

Keep bleeding those injector lines until you get
a good stream of fuel, go easy on using that ether. Hal

I'm not sure which 6 cyl. engine it has. The engine and casting numbers etc. are covered with a thick coat of grease. If I knew where to look on the engine I could clean up that area. (I got this "as is, WHERE is, which is several miles from civilization. Can't pressure wash it right now. Doing everything with a portable generator, etc.) I'm going back up there Monday and I'll get the machine serial numbers and maybe could track it that way.

The engine does have glow plugs (how long should I hold that button down? The gauge says RUN immediately - Which may be good advice if I use too much ether, right?)

It's a Bosch injector pump. If I knew what a cold start setting lever (or switch, etc.) looked like, I'd search for one.

I don;t think it's gear drive. There's no clutch, just two brakes and a throttle pedal. Nothing within many miles to tow it with, plus the bucket and backhoe outriggers are all down on the ground.

I will difinately loosen the lines to the injectors on Monday and ,make sure I got fuel to each cylinder.

Thanks for the help! Trucking is a lot cheaper and easier If I can get it started to run it up on the trailer.

that injector pump does not have a cold start.if its the eng i think it is there hard starting after siting so long 6 cyl model of the one they used in the 504 tractor.if you can pull the glow plugs and make shure they work ground to eng and run a hot wire to it should get red hot immediately.DO NOT USE ETHER AND GLOW PLUGS AT SAME TIME!!!! if you have fuel to injectors & glow plugs work it shuold run.

With respect to the glow plugs, my 282 likes at least 30 seconds, and the manual says a minute and a half in very cold weather. This requires a watch because 90 seconds holding that button is a long, long time.

Crack the lines open at the injectors and it will at least tell you where the fuel is (or isn't).

Be CAREFUL if that engine has glow plugs and you shoot ether to it you will either blow the pistons in the pan or blow the head off.

Did you bleed it all the way up to the injectors? Crack the lines at the injectors loose and crank it over until you get fuel spraying out at each fitting, Then tighten the fittings back up, and it should start. Like the other guys say, sure would help to know what engine you've got. I wouldn't go pulling out injectors yet, or dumping oil in the cylinders (bad, bad, idea). Take it easy on the ether.

I don't know what eng you have but if the injector pump has a cold start seting on it you will have to set that or it will not start.it would help to know what eng you have.2yr is not long for a diesel to sit.
